Unboxing My First and Still Best Sci-Fi Book Hoard

This is probably along with Expedition my all-time favorite art project in science fiction or fantasy. This is him painting hell as if hell were a science fiction planet... I think this is Barlowe's best work.

his memoir written in the 2000s at some point. I'm a fan. I like ICP a lot. I listen to their music. I think it's a lot better than people give it a chance to be.

a sort of a so-so book, short story collection by Silverberg, although there is an interesting essay in here where he's talking about how much he hates science fiction... The rest of it I think is pretty forgettable.

I think this is the copy that I that I read. We had a handful of science fiction books kind of floating around. This was one of them. Have not gone back to it and read it since. It's another formative book.

This is book I think three that I ever reviewed on the channel. It's Anthony's first book. It took him 20 years to write and I think he tried pretty hard to be literary a serious literary guy. not sure how successfully he was, but it's a wild-ass book.

Dust of Far SunsJack Vance

I read it and reviewed it. It's pretty middling. Some of them are good, some of them not so good... Dodkin's Job and Gift of Gab are great... Gift of Gab is the best one.

one of my all-timers. And Compton has continued has sustained himself in my esteem... this was and is, I think, probably still my favorite. Crazy grim book about a prison colony on Mars.

This is another book that I read in one sitting... Great book. This is a book about a starving, literally on the brink of death, starving essayist who is completely delusional about his own abilities and his own talents as a writer... Gripping. Such a good book to my memory.

nothing I think can ever diminish my esteem for this particular book. This is one of the most important, most elucidating science fiction books that I have ever read. I think this should be required reading... It's a great book. It's a genuinely great book.

followed by Marooned in Real Time, solid like techno-thriller stuff about big domes that trap people inside in time. So, it's sort of like a time travel thing, dystopian thing. it's good.

really fascinating stuff, especially the section about Athenian slavery. All of it puts into contrast just how severe and how evil American chattel slavery was and it was something basically without historical precedent.

this ended up being one of the most important books I ever read... I said it was better than Lord of the Rings. I don't think that holds up. I don't think I believe that anymore... It is better than Fellowship of the Ring. It's not better than the whole Lord of the Rings.

Fantastic book. This is on a par with the Dying Earth books. This might be my favorite ever Jack Vance book and it's high fantasy ala Song of Ice and Fire.

The GenocidesThomas M. Disch
Loved it

Excellent, excellent, excellent book. much better than other Disches that I have gone on to read... incredibly bleak book, incredibly violent. It's about an alien conquest of Earth that is utterly hopeless.

The first book I ever reviewed on YouTube was this book, and I'm sure if I went back to it, I would probably not like it nearly as much. I'm really not a Niven or a Purnell fan at all. but important book to me.

I really like this book, actually. I think the real-time books are at least on a par with the Zones of Thought books, which are much more famous. and he wrote these earlier. This is book 1, followed by Marooned in Real Time, solid like techno-thriller stuff about big domes that trap people inside in time... it's good.

underrated book. I really like this book. It's a satire of quack science and it's a coming-of-age story... It's a great book.

I found this same book in Chiang Mai when I was traveling and read it and overall pretty good. It includes The Genocides, which is the best in this collection.

I read it when I was a kid and I liked it because I was a big fan of the Carpenter movie... I went back to this and reread it and it just did not have nearly the same effect. I actually don't hold this book in all that high of esteem anymore, unfortunately.
