The blade itself is incredible. I love Joe Abercrombie's writing.
The Blade Itself (2001)
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he’s on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian – leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman Captain Jezal dan Luthar, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules. Inquisitor Glokta, cripple turned torturer, would like nothing better than to see Jezal come home in a box. But then Glokta hates everyone: cutting treason out of the Union one confession at a time leaves little room for friendship. His latest trail of corpses may lead him right to the rotten heart of government, if he can stay alive long enough to follow it. Enter the wizard, Bayaz. A bald old man with a terrible temper and a pathetic assistant, he could be the First of the Magi, he could be a spectacular fraud, but whatever he is, he's about to make the lives of Logen, Jezal, and Glotka a whole lot more difficult. Murderous conspiracies rise to the surface, old scores are ready to be settled, and the line between hero and villain is sharp enough to draw blood.

He creates in this book, his first book, two of my favorite characters in the entire fantasy genre, and he gives them memorable voices. He has a keen ear for dialogue.
I loved the first law trilogy where I started blade itself and before they were hanged in the last argument of kings like I loved that
I actually really enjoyed the blade itself and before they are hanged I actually really enjoy those books
I didn't love the first book but where do I put it
I really did see the appeal better. I think that the series works better than more that you read. So, I liked the second book more than the first, and then the third book more than the second.
I can't get into this I read a 100 pages and I have no idea what's going on and I actually think I need to start over like wasn't paying attention not really sure can't keep track of everything
then we have the first law series which I'm also going to put at the top of grade another really fantastic Grim Dark Fantasy series I would definitely recommend Joe AB comie has a really compelling writing style
An element that I always enjoy, no matter the genre, is humor. And this one, the very first page had me. It had me with the humor, the sarcasm, the wit of Logen Ninefingers.
The Blade Itself is wonderful. This is one of my least favorite First Law books.
I think the last Trilogy I got through with Joe ABA crom's initial first law Trilogy because I like the titles the blade itself before they are hanged and the last argument of Kings fantastic titles and you can tell the writings pretty good and they're very funny
blade itself and this one's a little worse than before they are hanged but they're like the same tier
I read this last year I believe and I really enjoyed it
