He creates in this book, his first book, two of my favorite characters in the entire fantasy genre, and he gives them memorable voices. He has a keen ear for dialogue.

View all videosI remember the story very clearly, but I think the characters are really wooden in this book and I didn't really latch on to any of them.
But the book finds its feet and about halfway through this book, it follows one character on one of the sides of this continent and it really delves into this world and it's a fantastic read after that and each book gets better and better after that.
But for me, Marian O'Neal was outstanding. This is the best one of these 10 in my mind.
I understand why Goodreads has it lower, but I think it's an outstanding book and definitely, you know, a top two book for me of this ranking.
It gives you just great plotting from beginning to end, some great plot twists at the end. He gives you a character that you'll latch on to.
And actually, as I'm filming this today, I finished the series and I think it's a very strong series. I really enjoyed it and I enjoyed this debut, Harpy's Flight.
The one thing that really struck me when I read this a month or two ago because this is the most recent read on this list that I've read is that it's kind of an author searching for a voice. And it's a bit of a disjunct reading experience. But a lot of times Murakami does that and he does that well.
It just feels very different because I didn't feel that in this book he was quite as strong with characterization as he is in everything else that I've read by him, including his non-fiction works. But it was still a good book.
But man, I just I love the courage. I love the inventiveness of his brand of horror that he reveals here. He's willing to go places that, you know, a lot of a lot of people might take it a little safer than he did, but man, Carrie is great.
But, I've read 15 of these books so far, and the collaboration between Feist and Wurts is clearly a cut above all of them.
So, for me, my number one favorite fantasy series is The Lord of the Rings because Tolkien is fantasy.
This is some of the best fantasy storytelling you're going to get.
This is a series that I loved when I first read it as a 14-year-old, but I did reread it a few years ago, and I think it still holds up.
It is four books and it is non-epic fantasy, but it's non-epic fantasy with a level of world building and especially of culture that is just as good as the big epic tomes that we're used to reading in this genre.
This is an urban fantasy series. I think there's 18 or 19 books at this point, and it's a series that started slow for me, but man, the last half of this series has been absolutely incredible.
But, Sanderson did a great job finishing the series, and it remains one of my favorite series of all time.
We had basically the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring with different kinds of characters, but then Jordan went his own way.
The Sarantine Mosaic for me is a really important text.
I'm only eight books into this 10-book series, and that's Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I'm pretty sure this is destined to be in the top 10, maybe even top five, depending on how it ends, because the highs in this series are incredible.
And this is a story that starts with the very famous memorable line, "The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed." It sucked me in right away and kept me all the way to the end of the series.
The Realm of the Elderlings is the book series that really for the first time made me think that perhaps going forward as a reader, I can find new favorite things.
Well, you're going to see there's a lot of S tier books that I put ahead of Deadbeat. But Deadbeat was amazing. We get Waldo Butters.
And probably one of my unpopular placements on this book is I'm only going to put Battleground in the A tier rather than the S tier. And the reason is it is a wall to-all action and that's not my thing. However, there's one real big one.
