If you enjoy something like Alien Clay, this is a great one to follow up because in terms of tone, style, plotting, all of that. It's its own story.

View all videosI will say that this book appealed to me for the same reasons that I love Ancillary Justice by Ann Lucky. So largely shape your interest in reading this one based off how much you enjoyed that series because again it deals with really similar topics in terms of personhood and what it means to be alive and again of course putting the idea of kind of putting memory or thought into a machine and what ramifications or implications that might have.
And again, this book I read quite early in the year, but it still is one that stuck with me and been the comparison that every other science fiction book that has come after has had to contend with. So in my mind, highly recommend if you share my interest in these type of stories.
I think at this point, Adrian Shakoski has earned his own name as again an author who is both prolific without sacrificing the quality of his work. So again, you have these really interesting science fiction concepts woven through in the story, but at the same time, you have again deep characters, great banter, back and forth, exciting plot, suspense, and again, you're going to care deeply for the characters and what happens to them.
I'm putting it here just because it was one of my absolute favorite books of the year. highly emotional. I love this book and really hit me at a personal level.
In my mind, as I talked about this book recently, it's just a really good balance of having a great plot, really interesting world building in the background. You can tell the author has a love for science fiction as the elements that I love are woven throughout the story.
So, I really enjoyed this one. I think a lot of you will as well.
I just found this one to be very entertaining, but at the same time, again, I felt like I learned little pieces and nuggets about astronaut life that I didn't otherwise know despite reading a lot of books set in this general subgenre just because I find it really fascinating. So, highly recommend this one. Had a lot of fun with it.
I do think it's a solid conclusion and definitely earns a place among my favorites of the year.
So, highly recommend this one. I think that it was a little bit of a sleeper of the year and definitely deserves more attention.
I think it has similar feels to something like Station 11 if you enjoyed that one. and this is a similar one that has again that same kind of tone to it.
I've loved her previous book, Beneath, and this one reminds me a lot of that one, but in my mind, this one's a little bit more finished as a sophomore novel...
It reminded me a lot of Bloom by Delila S. Dawson, one of my favorite books from last year.
I'm a huge sucker for the person out of time trope, something that you see in books like Outlander by Diana Gabaldone. So if you love that, too, this one is really well done...
It hit me at the right time. I'm actually someone who likes the idea of witchy fiction a lot more than I actually tend to enjoy it in execution, but this one was the exception there.
I was watching the news and feeling quite helpless to do anything about the things that were affecting you know family and friends when it comes to jobs and policies and so forth and this book just hit at the right time.
It is one that I think has just fantastic character work. The writing is really nice. It's relatively short and sweet and very much a tight story with some really good plotting and it's got a little bit of a sappic leaning to it.
So again, my placement of this book in this video is largely based off the fact that this has become a huge comfort series for me, one that I'm addicted to. I fly through the books every time they come out, and I'm already dying for the next installment.
I thought the writing was very well done. Particularly the character work just felt like the author wasn't just going through the motions of writing one of these fast action plots that typically is something you'd see more in movies and instead this one felt really fleshed out and thought about.
I love almost all of her books and this is definitely one I would add to that pile.
It was relatively short to read, which I think worked in its favor. And I just had a really good time with it.
This book was highly emotional for me to read.
And I'm so glad I did because this one hooked me completely back in. and it plays around with time, as the title suggests, in a really fun way. And again, it just made me fall in love with the series all over again.
I am a sucker for the kind of stories that involve a character who is the underdog down on their luck, scrapping and fighting for a place in society that are coming from nothing. And so a book like this from the first page to the first chapter completely grabbed my attention.
