This is one that I tried reading the physical book of. I tried doing the audio book and it just did not hold my attention... this one just felt like it was mechanically going through the steps without having anything that really hooked me in emotionally.
The Worst & Most Disappointing Books of 2025

This one wasn't terrible by any means, but it fell quite flat for me largely because I had no particular interest or focus on the topic. I just didn't find the subject matter that this self-centered round to be to my taste.
I found myself just not really getting along with the characters, just not finding the characters very interesting... there was so much about the book that I just found really tiring and found myself kind of checking how many pages I had left.
This one completely missed the mark for me, largely because it felt so young and immature. While I believe it's classified as an adult fiction book, it read like really immature young adult fiction and I just felt like it didn't really live up to the potential.
And admittedly, this book was just incredibly forgettable. So much so that I can barely speak to what I found so disappointing about it. I just remember having a nothing experience with it.
And this is a case in my mind of just too many characters... it was just too busy, too messy. And by the end, it was really hard to keep caring because the story just got really unwieldy.
And this again is a favorite author of mine or consider a favorite author. This one is co-written and it focuses on historical horror which is normally not my thing... I found that the stylistic narrative choices within this one was very reminiscent of historical fiction in a way that was not very pleasing to my personal taste.
And I really hated how this book leaned into certain stereotypes you see over and over again in fiction. And so it really bothered me to the point of actually getting quite angry reading it.
This one just felt like an epilogue. It felt like the epilogue that should have been attached to the previous book. It virtually has no plot.
The book felt very superficial in terms of the science fiction elements to it but really lacked the depth and the heart and the complexities that in my mind make science fiction so good. And so again it felt very surface level and just very unsatisfying in my opinion.
I didn't find the actual execution, the characters, the way the story was written just did not pull me in. And I did decide to let it go.
But I despise reading books around the female experience, monthly cycles, labor, delivery, all of that. not something I enjoy reading at the best of times. And so with this book being entirely centered around those topics, it was really hard for me to love.
