for the first 20 to 50 pages I was just thinking why are we walking down the street why are we going to this dinner party why is there so many emphasis on the people that she's talking to but when she actually arrives to the actual essay part of the book her points are really good

A Study in DrowningAva Reid
Loved it

The Vibes here are abandoned old Mansions English cliffsides fairy folklore and two love interests that are constantly blushing every single page they are blushing there's a lot of blushing in this book

Art mattersNeil Gaiman
Loved it

this book is Neil Gaiman telling you how to reach your artistic Dreams by letting you know that he lied during his first writing job interview and that's how I got the job now maybe reala cannot actually speak into your ear but if you listen to the audio book for this one it is narrated by Neil Gaiman and his voice is so beautiful I highly recommend that

what is the book equivalent to a catfish because that is what this was it's called assistant to the villain so you might think this book is going to be about you know an assistant to a villain doing villain assistant Things

the good in question here was the romance the bad was pretty much everything else read this if you like Shadow daddy romance I hate that I keep using this word for it but you know what I mean the love interest is some Shadow wielding dude in this case it's literally the Grim Reaper death himself

BitterthornKat Dunn
Mixed

this is the only LGBT Romany book that I read this year and it was markedly less annoying than the ones just between a man and a woman read it if you don't want any annoying gender stereotypes and Macho Man in your romantices just a slow and sweet saffic romance in fact it was so slow that I personally found it a little bit boring at times

CultishAmanda Montell
Loved it

this is about the language that is often used by Cults and how other companies can use cult likee tactics to rein in all their customers so if you need another excuse to not go spinning read this book

I know I never thought I would call a liardo book just fine but I enjoyed myself you know I always believed that villain origin stories are a little bit more than just oh he had a sad past

Hell BentLeigh Bardugo
Loved it

usually I just forget everything about a book the moment I read it but I still have all of her descriptions of New Haven and the university and the starry nights just burned into my brain I just love it when University students start summoning demons and opening portals to hell

Heroes & villainsAngela Carter
Not a fan

another unfortunate disappointment is my first book by Angela Carter that I read and that is heroes and villains Angela Carter grips you by the throat with her really direct and intense writing style and after reading this book now also having read a little bit of her other work I'm realizing this book just wasn't her best

Immortal LongingsChloe Gong
Not a fan

the next one of the worst books I read this year was Immortal longings by Chloe gong so right before I started reading this I spilled Cider on the book so that's why the dust jacket is all frumpy and I think this was a premonition from the universe that I just shouldn't have bothered with it

Juniper and ThornAva Reid
Loved it

this fits the female rage category but it's fantasy meaning that the rage in question will of course involve curses and demons and girls escaping from Towers the best kind of female rage if you ask me

I feel like this book you can actually get lost in not only because the writing style is so Lush and descriptive that it can often make you feel a little bit lost but mostly because this Gothic tale is so full of Rich environments and folklore references and myths

at the beginning I was like oh these Orcs they're making coffee it's so cute and then after a while I was like they're still making coffee and it's still so overly sweet and cute and I'm kind of done

there are some beautiful quotes in here especially the ones regarding more life General Life advice that I've definitely remembered my favorite one is I think also the most important one and that is what matters is to live everything live the questions

Love TheoreticallyAli Hazelwood
Loved it

this is a romance book for all the people Pleasers for all the girlies that kind of change who they are and what they say based on the people that they're around and just need someone to stop their you may know the fake dating Trope as like a boy and girl pretend to date but this is fake dating as in the girl is constantly fake dating people to help them out

MisfitElle Kennedy
Not a fan

the one that I've decided to put all the way at the bottom because what a train wreck and that is a misfit by El Kennedy if the implied threesome between a student and not one but two of his teachers are the most genuinely enjoyable part of the book then you know something is a little bit fishy

Nettle & BoneT. Kingfisher
Loved it

I think is the literary equivalent of a Cabinet of Curiosities you don't read it for the exciting plot you don't read it for like a deep dive into characters you read it for just this slow cozy Quest where you meet all sorts of interesting characters and beautiful places along the way

Period PowerMaisie Hill

I feel very twofold about this book on the one hand I was constantly on my guard for the kind of pseudo scientific information in there on the other hand it lowkey changed my life

Serious concernsWendy Cope
Loved it

this is the Poetry collection for people who are fed up with modern life but simultaneously Marvel at every mundane moment of humanity Wendy cop writes with a lot of humor in her poetry

SlewfootBrom
Loved it

if you think of the witch trials and all of those women that were wrongfully accused of Witchcraft because they just were kind of fed up with all the oppressive rules that were put on them because they're women and you think what if one of these accused witches made a PCT with the devil and actually gained these witchy powers

the best book that I read this year is stories of your life and other short stories by Ted Chang what's better than a great story eight great short stories Tang is so good at creating an entire world full of magic systems in only 40 pages

The Bell JarSylvia Plath
Loved it

this is a very smothering story about the foggy way that a young woman with depression experiences life how other people don't know how to deal with her depression how this young woman doesn't know how to deal with her own depression and how other people don't know how to deal with young women

I read the bridge Kingdom because I was like oh my God everyone so into it's enemies to lovers Romany you know I'm in a Vibe where I just want some romance in my fantasy books let's give it a try

this is the worst book series I've ever loved the entire thing reads like fanfiction in the best way but also in the worst way both really and this story involves the Japanese Mafia a madeup violent Sport and characters edgier than the knives they secretly carry up their sleeves

the good in question here were the themes the bad in question was everything else but this is I think more of a me thing so read this book if you love sci-fi that explores ideas in this case ideas of gender

The Queen of NothingHolly Black
Loved it

I started off the year 2023 with finishing the cruel Prince Trilogy with the book The Queen of nothing I heard a lot of people say that the last book was like a huge disappointment I really enjoyed it

The Stolen HeirHolly Black
Loved it

read this if you want to feel the joy of reading young adult fantasy but you've read so many of them now that you really just want to see some tropes be subverted for once

this is a super heartwarming story of this kind of surly middle-aged man that melts his heart and finds love with another man at this orphanage full of super well- written and quirky magical children
