Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential—and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher. Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed. But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

Neil Josten is out of time. He knew when he came to PSU he wouldn't survive the year, but with his death right around the corner he's got more reasons than ever to live. Befriending the Foxes was inadvisable. Kissing one is unthinkable. Neil should know better than to get involved with anyone this close to the end, but Andrew's never been the easiest person to walk away from. If they both say it doesn't mean anything, maybe Neil won't regret losing it, but the one person Neil can't lie to is himself. He's got promises to keep and a team to get to championships if he can just outrun Riko a little longer, but Riko's not the only monster in Neil's life. The truth might get them all killed—or be Neil's one shot at getting out of this alive.

An Italian mafia heir is forced to go on the run, but finds himself suddenly drawn to the assassin tracking him. GIULIO I've renounced my birthright as the heir to an Italian mafia empire, but no one leaves the brotherhood without paying a price. To evade my enemies, I stay on the move. Now a new man is stalking me, watching me. But there's something else in his eyes, a hunger that sets me on fire. He's rough and dangerous, all the things I crave in the dark. Except he's been hired to kill me. I shouldn't want him. But I do. They say to keep your enemies close. So that's exactly what I'm planning. Beware the hunted who becomes the hunter... ALESSIO I live in the shadows, the assassin they never see coming. I'm the best, but Giulio is my weakness. I need him in ways I can't begin to explain. He might run, but I'll follow him to the ends of the earth. And if others try to hurt him, I'll protect him with my last breath. Except I'm hiding a secret, one that will cost me everything. I should walk away, but I can't. Even if it's my undoing.

I went to Scotland looking for answers about my past. The last thing I expected was getting trapped on a private island with my stoic, brooding, gorgeous contractor. Ramsay McRae is a man with secrets. He prefers the company of his dog to people and silence to any semblance of politeness. He says I’m too young, too sweet, too innocent. Only he doesn’t know the truth. That I’m haunted by a crime that tore my life apart two years ago. I’ve come to Half-Light Harbor not just to start over, but to bring the monster who killed my parents to justice. The last thing I need is a tortured Scot distracting me from my mission. But when his restraint snaps and my walls crumble, the results are explosive. We say it’s only a no-strings-attached affair. A temporary moment to burn out this fire between us. The scowl should've been my first clue to stay far away from Anson Hunt. The sexy smirk and the fact that he's my brother's best friend? Reasons two and three. Not to mention, he's the new contractor working on my house. He's everything I'm not: grumpy, rude, and more than a little attached to his solitude. It doesn't matter how many times I try to kill him with kindness; the man simply won't crack. Until he sees me shatter. Because when my world comes crashing down around me, Anson is the one catching me as I fall. And as so-called accidents start plaguing every part of my life, it's Anson who steps in to keep me safe. As he does, I can't help but feel a flicker of heat. And it only takes a single moment for that spark to ignite into flames, engulfing us both. But Anson's a man with secrets, and they have a price. When they're revealed, neither of us will make it out unscathed...

this is the worst book series I've ever loved the entire thing reads like fanfiction in the best way but also in the worst way both really and this story involves the Japanese Mafia a madeup violent Sport and characters edgier than the knives they secretly carry up their sleeves

even though i gave this two stars yeah i was hooked yeah i picked up the second and third book in the series i haven't read the third yet i do think the series gets better but the mishandling of mental health and drug use and sexuality is a little too much to overlook

Loved it

every character in this book is so complex so like mysterious and so throughout this story characters will do things that you just didn't see coming and then you like you learn something about them and the main player of the team that our main character is on was originally on this other team the whole crime thing comes back in at some point and it's just fantastic and wonderfully written and just amazing and I need the second book
