Pretty derivative of rendezvous with Rama but good book especially the first two-thirds of it feels like reading big budget James Cameron movie that was never made and then it sort of falls apart in the last section.

HyperionDan Simmons

It is a very good book it is a very uneven book... sections of it like the priest's tale and the father with the daughter The Scholar those are wonderful.

It is to me the definition of bloat it is over a thousand pages long and it is only the first half of a diptych there is one highlight which is chapter 18 which is the Morning Light Mountain chapter.

Red MarsKim Stanley Robinson
Loved it

Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson is one of the few hard science fiction books that I found thrilling it is the first in a Trilogy and some of the best character work I have read in a book like this.

River of godsIan McDonald

The first half of it I liked... otherwise I found it kind of a little purile at spots and just kind of bloated not that interesting and the plot is incoherent.

Stand on ZanzibarJohn Brunner
Loved it

The book is incredibly strong in its World building elements it's portrayal of social issues and certain elements of Technology it's a cautionary tale about overpopulation and a wonderful dystopia that really is pretty vividly recognizable.

One of the most competent space operas that I have read... perfectly plotted the alien biology and alien culture extremely smart interesting well realized well written there's very little fat on the bones with this.

The SparrowMary Doria Russell
Not a fan

I found it utterly bloated and trite and poor the main cardinal sin of this book the worst one that isn't a Jesuit joke the worst part of the book is the quippy ass dialogue.

It's a really dark cynical look at history as kind of this unbroken chain of violence and ignorance and the resolution of it is interesting... it was the first Paul Anderson that I've read and it put him on my radar as an intelligent person.
