we are told very repeatedly that she is a certain way but we are shown none of that and the disconnect between what we are told and what we are shown makes this a really frustrating read

View all videosit was not fun it was not interesting it was not enjoyable making this the worst book that I read in 2024
I hated love on the brain
this book had some moments where I was enjoying it more than others but I think it is so high on my list of worst because it just was so bloated it was so bloated it needed editing so bad
this book is a bunch of nothing the plot barely advances at over 500 pages and then we get a cliffhanger at the end of those 500 pages
the plot is so Meandering like it feels like it doesn't care about the plot it doesn't care about the world there was so little Foundation there was so little showing there was so little care to really think about this work as its own entity
I was really surprised by how bad this one was especially considering how hyped it is I found it really tonally inconsistent badly written very repetitive anachronistic very shallow in its atmosphere building and almost non-existent in its World building and then you get a romance that was hardly developed
this book left me feeling gross about its entire point of view and then on top of that I thought it was just overwritten overwrought and over invested in its own aesthetic
I enjoyed the love hypothesis
overall the story's Reliance on the miscommunication on the obliviousness on the overdone sort of quirky humor it really became exhausting for me
I got so much out of this essay collection and you can really tell by the sheer number of times that I have referenced it since I read it
I thought this book was absolutely devastating in a very short tight and compact way it manages to not only say so much but invite you to think so much in a very small package
I think that this was incredibly bold and I just have not been able to stop thinking about it
I could quote like entire sections whole essays of this book because it hit me very deeply
this is one of those stories that every time I think about it like I genuinely feel warm and fuzzy and giddy inside and a lot of that has to do with the strength of anous as a main character
this is a reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that shifts the focus to one of the characters in that work Jim an enslaved man
it is an incredibly Rich world but it also has very smooth and competent writing and that let me sort of fully immerse into the world and it made it very difficult to put down the book
this is my first Everett novel what an introduction you can just tell that this is an author who is a master of his craft
this book is a masterpiece it is incredibly ambitious it is very much unlike most if not all of what I've read before
what a little gem of a book this is one of those stories that feels really quiet in its delivery but just resonated super deeply with me
This book was truly an experience that's what I found most memorable about this book not necessarily like the plot beats but just the way that it made me feel and the way that it made me think
this was a horrible book to read the words of and like the actual content the romance the interactions the dialogue all of that was really poor quality
I was legitimately horrified by my reading experience
It ultimately takes every negative stereotype you've ever heard about the Middle East and it just us uses that and infuses the world
