Better by Far by Hazel Hayes I gave 3 where is it? 75.
Everything I Read in August ☀️
Code Dependent, four stars.
my only one star of the month and one of my only one stars of the entire year is Dear Monster Claus. I knew what I probably wouldn't love this, but there was a chance, but it was not for me.
Same with this one. Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Shaunie Magcguire. Four stars.
This was interesting. did I give it a three? In my hand, it feels like a three. Apparently, I gave it a 3.5.
Fear in the Black Body: Racial Origins of Fat Phobia by Sabrina Strings was four stars.
Then we have Fever Dream by Elsie Silver... this was a two star and I have to get rid of it. Most disappointing... I was just really hoping after everyone told me to read Elsie Silver that I would love it.
Forest Euphoria was a memoir. Did not rate that one. Most disappointing... Forest Euphoria because I thought this was going to be about all of these things in nature that we didn't know were queer, but that's just not what the story or the memoir what it ended up being.
This is a little parable. It's a beautiful tale. I thought it was fine. It didn't do anything for me. It's a three.
We've got The Kiss Curse by Aaron Sterling that I gave a three. Also in the same video, Two Can Play by Ally Hazelwood. Really glad I got those from the library.
The non-fiction that I read for the buzzword video was Monsters in the Archives. This was a four. I actually disagree with that version of me. I don't know what I was on about. It's a 3.75.
I gave this four stars. I like it just as much as that one. I would certainly recommend it especially if you liked the first one.
I read The North Star: Canada and the Civil War plot against Lincoln and gave this four stars, which is surprising, but also not surprising at all if you know me.
Next is Read Your Color... I gave this four stars... It was a really well constructed book for sure... I will most definitely be recommending this to people.
Swift and Settled by Laya Sage I gave four stars.
I listened to the anthroposine reviewed and I gave that a four.
I listened to The Changeling and I gave that a four.
A 3.5 went to The Dream Thieves, the graphic novel. This is the second book in a series. It was adapted from one of my favorite series of all time, and I thought this one was better done than the first book, and it had slightly its own voice.
The Hundred Years War on Palestine, four stars. The Hundred Years War on Palestine is super informative and way more readable than you might think.
The Law of the Skies by Gregoire Cortis. This one feels like a three in my hand as well. What did I give it? 3.75.
And finally, my favorite book of the month, my battery died. I've been talking too much, is The Mashup by Laura Marie Meyers. This is a 4.5. I had such a good time reading this and the nostalgia just felt like perfect.
I also gave a three to the unknown by Riley Sager. I feel like this was fine. The strongest part about this is definitely the atmosphere. I found it to be very predictable. beautifully written and super atmospheric which is where my three is coming from.
We have The Winter Box. I listened to that and gave it a 3.5.
I also read The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels, which I gave a 3.75. I feel like I'm holding on to this because I like India Holton.
The Warren by Brian Evansson. I'm trusting former Kayla with these ratings. I gave a three. This one was a three.
Thin air ghost story by Michelle Paver. This one I gave a four cuz I remember putting it on. Yeah, I did.
Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez. I think I'm just more picky about the anthologies that I keep or the short story collections. If I didn't love a short story collection, I don't really need to own it.
Two Can Play by Ally Hazelwood. Really glad I got those from the library. This one was a two, right?
What My Bones Snow by Stephanie Fu is a memoir, which I am not rating. It was very good. I'm keeping it.
Word by Amanda Montel... A Feminist Guide to Taking Back the English Language was a 425.
