This is a brilliant, brilliant book. I think N.K. Jemisin is a master of her craft. The world building and this magic system that feels so grounded, it feels very realistic, but it is also a hard-hitting book.

View all videosThis was just such an interesting concept. Again, love the characters that we meet. We have a found family situation, a lot of ambiguity with the morality of our characters, and yeah, it was just absolutely gripping story. I loved it so much.
I adored this book so, so very much. I'm also just a sucker for a book that has a school, particularly a magical kind of school setting.
So, I did, and I read it within a day... It was a book that had me just thinking about the world and nature. It had me crying like happy tears. I underlined so many things in this book.
And then through Amy was introduced to The Illuminae Files that she co-wrote with Jay Kristoff, which I absolutely loved. That was also a fantastic series that I highly recommend.
So, introduced to Jay Kristoff and subsequently Nevernight, which is another series that I fell in love with.
It is a beautiful graphic novel that is about this kind of dying art of caring for tea dragons. This is another really wholesome story. It is beautiful and whimsical and very sweet.
I knew I would love it. I read it in 2024 and no surprise, I did absolutely love it. But again, trigger warnings for sure.
This one is the first in a YA sci-fi trilogy... I remember hearing about this online and then picking it up and devouring it.
This is actually a placeholder for the entire Brown Sisters trilogy, but this book in particular, the third book in the series, is the one that has stuck with me the most. We definitely recommend this series if you haven't picked it up already.
I absolutely fell in love with this book and the characters and oh, the chemistry.
This is one of those reading experiences where I was just constantly in awe. I loved the writing and a lot of those philosophical moments... it was brilliant.
I did. And it was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. It really gripped me. It had me hooked, and would absolutely recommend this and if you have the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, definitely do so.
And again, I very belatedly jumped on this bandwagon, but my gosh, absolutely spectacular book. I loved all the characters, the high stakes.
I just remember having the best time reading this one. I also ended up rereading it and listening to the audiobook, which is a great time. I love the concept, love the sense of adventure in solving puzzles.
I also ended up reading and loving Erin Morgenstern's next book, The Starless Sea, but it is thanks to BookTube that I was introduced to this author and specifically The Night Circus.
This was just such a magical and atmospheric book which follows The Night Circus which appears without any notice and it is full of whimsy and wonder and magic. I just absolutely adored this book and the writing, the characters, the magic, and this setting of a really whimsical night circus.
I adored this so very much. Like, I absolutely fell in love with this book and the characters... I was just so blown away by this book and it has absolutely stuck with me.
I, first of all, reread The Book Thief, which just waxed me out. Oh my god, emotions. So many emotions, but it's a reread, so I'm not counting it here.
I just had so many visceral reactions while reading this book. It shocked me, it surprised me, it entertained me, it had me gasping, it had me crying, and then at the very end I had a bit of an existential crisis.
It's kind of a love story to Howl's Moving Castle, so if you are a fan of that book or movie, I think you'd really love this. It's essentially if Howl's Moving Castle was about two women who become friends.
And, I felt really similarly with The Martian.
I loved Priory of the Orange Tree so much and I loved A Day of Fallen Night as well.
I also remember drawing a bit of a comparison to this and Shadow and Bone.
