Assassin's ApprenticeRobin Hobb
Loved it

I absolutely love Robin Hobb's writing. I think she I've explained her pro style as the sort of thing that feels like a warm enveloping hug that also might hurt you.

Black sun risingC.S. Friedman
Loved it

Her ability to pull you into an atmosphere, an environment, and make it feel like its own character is brilliant. I loved it so much. I went back and reread so many different paragraph description paragraphs of environments of characters.

By Blood, by SaltJ.L. Odom
Loved it

her environments and the description of those environments feels like you are there, like you can feel the wind on your face. And that is a very hard to accomplish talent within writing in general, not just in fantasy.

I have read two books by Juliet Merilier now and her writing is very quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites in fantasy. She is able to combine that kind of grim fairy tale feeling with folklore and ancient history.

Guards! Guards!Terry Pratchett
Loved it

the thing that I think is so brilliant about Terry Patchet's pros is it is very sharp. It's very witty. It's very intensely intellectual, but not in a way that ever feels like you're being talked down to.

Loved it

Josiah Braftoft can write some pros, you guys. But not only can he write some beautiful descriptive paragraphs, he can also write some stellar epigraphs.

The Lies of Lamora by Scott Lynch does not get enough praise for the pros and the setting. at the heart of the background to all of that, the stage on which those characters play is some really phenomenal pros.

one of the things that I absolutely love about Daniel Abraham's work is his character work is like no author I have ever read before. These characters are so organic, you almost forget that you're reading fiction.
