besides A Study in Drowning, which I never read the sequel to because I just consider that a standalone, I don't think Ava Reed works well for me with YA.
recent reads: lake monsters, biopunk detectives, re-reads of old favorites, and bad YA dystopians
This is getting back up there again. So, this was a four star. I liked it, but I wasn't like totally pulled in, but overall still really enjoyed it.
this was fine. I listened to this on audio. I think if I hadn't read other books by Indigenous authors that I think are kind of like so foundational, this would have hit more.
I had read about in like Braiding Sweetgrass, for example, by Robin Wall Kimmerer, which is one of the best books of all time.
And Carrie Soto was like a two or three.
it got a little bit annoying towards the end of the book, but the beginning I quite enjoyed. And I ultimately like did enjoy their relationship when they weren't being dum-dums. So, three out of five stars.
this was a two-star for me because there were moments that were good in this. but overall, I was like, this world-building is so weak, this like characters, how these two characters are trusting each other, so weak.
I got like a little over a hundred pages in and like kind of nothing was happening. ... I just didn't really want to pick it up.
I really loved this and I'm excited for the future of Maggie O'Neal stuff. ... I gave this a 4.5 out of 5 because the end was like a little rushy.
It's a little bit slower to get through, but it's worth it. The writing is incredible. The like twists and stuff are great.
I also didn't really enjoy Malibu Rising. That was like a two.
I found this book really fascinating. I gave this four stars because there were parts of it towards the end that were more geared towards people who were using alcohol more as a coping mechanism.
So, yeah, this one is another four-star for me. Again, I liked it more on reread because I had more context for some of the things that were happening in here.
this is incredible in like the writing and like the prose and the like the themes and just like the structure of it. So, this was like a four 4.5 stars for me.
I'm still very much like Evelyn Hugo was like my favorite that I've read by her.
I loved the characters. I loved the world. I loved the plot.
this was just as good on reread, if not better. Like, every time I reread this book in particular in the series, I enjoy it more.
This was too much memoir for a woman who I don't care about. So, yeah, this was like a two-star.
