I don't know, very slightly and that book series feels very YA to me in a lot of ways, but I don't love it that much. So that's why I didn't want to fully recommend it.

If you want to dip your toe in with something that's maybe shorter than some of these longer series, I would recommend Every Heart a Doorway or the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire.
I think this book does that kind of trope very well because a lot of people hear that and they're like, "Oh, that's just very typical." It's not. It's really good.
So, if you want kind of like that fast-paced space romp dystopian feel, but it gets less dystopian feeling later on kind of, then I would recommend this one for sure.
This is where I started with him and that's why I recommend this series a lot.
I really enjoy this series a lot and I think it's a good introduction to space things if you are new to adult space things.
The first book is not fun. I actually like really did not like the first book, but everyone told me to keep pushing through and I love the second two books.
And last but not least, I of course had to mention The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, my favorite book of all time.
If you're trying to get away from that, this has light on the romance and is just a really interesting look at a female leader, but also somebody who's trying to come into their own who is kept away from a lot of the political machinations, so you're sort of learning along with her if you're trying to kind of get into political intrigue. And you also have a really compelling villain in here as well.
It's also one of my favorite fantasy stories of all time and I love it so much.
I think this is a really good crossover book because again this author writes in middle grade YA and adult and I do find that I feel like a lot of her adult books read more like YA anyway.
