The Top 10 Dark Books Books I Read in 2023 | (Backlist Edition)

I think a study in Scarlet is fantastic because it is a story that introduces how Watson and Sherlock get to know each other it's a great setup I think it's a really representative of the other works to come

this of course is the same author who wrote American Psycho which is one of my favorite books from last year... I love the fact that I'd already read American Psycho so I could see some of the winks and nods to that one

This is one that I will admit is imperfect in a way it's there's a reason I'm putting it at the bottom of my list but I could not stop thinking about it was very off-kilter very strange the author's writing is very distinct and it really got stuck in my head in a very good way.

it is as I've mentioned before in videos a slower book for me it did take a while to get into as a slower burn but obviously the reason that ended up on this list I'm going to tell you that it is worth your time to go through a slower start... I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those of you that share my love of psychological horror and thrillers.

the pros in the story are stunning and I'm not someone who normally gushes about pros and books... it's very slow moving it's very character focused and I just love spending time with the characters... it was just a really good experience to read and I do recommend it

this is one that is amazing I do think it's a Timeless piece that works just as well today as it did when it was first written... I love the twists and turns... this book is a classic for reason it is so good

The Story of JunkUnknown

this one was just beautiful it was so thoughtful and nuanced how it just built around this character you really felt for them... I thought it was so well executed the writing was beautiful the story was emotional and powerful and the character work was great

The ghost brideYangsze Choo
Loved it

this is in many ways a great piece of historical fiction really opening my eyes to a part of the world in a time period that it wasn't otherwise very aware of... finding one that I enjoyed this much was really a nice treat

it hits in the emotions very hard if you can't tell this book had a big effect on me it was a complete surprise one of those books you pick up on a whim... I felt very unsettled reading it which again worked for me on that psychological level

this is when I was completely obsessed with from start to finish... her writing is beautiful her ideas and her style just works so well for me and on top of that this case itself is fascinating
