Top 10 Indie Horror Books of All Time (or 2023)

this book was a lot of fun it has some great humor some great characters and again it takes the tropes of a haunted house story it sounds very traditional and then it goes in a completely different direction and i personally really like that direction

i love a good slasher story and i like the fact that this one kind of brings in that queer different aspect to the story and just has some really good commentary but the story moves along at a great place it's quite short and it's just a really enjoyable one

this book has one of the most terrifying prologues i describe it as nightmare fuel and the rest of the book it definitely does not hold back this author is not afraid to write some scary scenes some fantastic kills and it was just so much fun

this book is a bit off-kilter it's a little bit weird and the narrative is just strange but if you like creepy children's stories if you like stories involving morticians and their work this one might really appeal to you i definitely enjoy those body horror elements

oh my goodness this is a love letter to classic slasher films and you can definitely tell the author's inspiration and love of the genre he does his own cover art so i really just want to highlight that here because i love his covers

this story is one that definitely appealed to me because if you don't know i'm a huge fan of possession story so the premise definitely hooked me in and the story ended up really delivering

this book i need to give warnings is incredibly dark huge content warnings it is disturbing and messed up and vulgar and i really loved it if i'm honest

i love this story for so many reasons for me it's just the iconic horror story it hits on so many of the tropes but in a way that never felt tired it felt fresh and fun

the author was so kind as to give this book a try on me and it worked so well this is probably one of the first haunted house stories i ever liked and so it definitely holds a special place in my heart

this is much lighter than a lot of the other horror books i'm putting on this list so i would say that it's more satirical horror which often does not work for me but in this case it totally hit home
