I think the concept of the magic was cool but it was missing Holly Black's like beautiful and interesting writing it was missing all of the great intensity I feel like we get in her Y A series.

conceptually fantastic I love the folklore and mythology elements of this book I love the setup of this book but for me the pacing was just really off everything happened so fast.
I read the sequel glint and I liked it so this is more of a criticism specifically on the first book.
it was good it just wasn't great and that's just how I feel about it at the end of the day.
to me that does not excuse 600 pages of literally nothing we had an interesting beginning and an interesting end nothing that happened in the middle actually served the plot in any real way
even going into book two which still had the same strengths as book one the sort of fantasy component was quite frankly the exact same and was plagued with the exact same issues but because it was really like a copy and paste I kind of had even less patience for reading it again in book two
I like parts of this book again the gothic elements are great there's also like horror medical elements that I also think work really well too and there's also like a magic haunting element all those I felt like added great Vibes bothered me about this book is that the character motivations made literally zero sense.
I just don't get the hype Around The Wheel of Time they're all okay but for the most part it's repetitive I don't really get how Robert Jordan goes about approaching his plots
I feel like the concept was fantastic I love the idea of this book but for me the execution just did not work totally.
