Popular Books NOT Worth the Hype!

Reviews9

This is an interesting one because I feel like the more time and distance I have away from this book, less I feel strongly to it. I thought there was a lot of like interesting concepts in this book, but everything sort of stayed surface.

Overall, I found the horror to not be that scary. And that's saying something because I am an absolute wimp. I wouldn't say this book was terrible by any means, but in regards to this author's like collection of books, it's by far one of the least favorites I have read of his.

This book I found to be quite underwhelming and also I would just say not as good as her other releases. I like the writing style generally, but the plot was very, very, very standard.

The execution was like a little lukewarm for such a short book. The pacing was kind of slow and I just feel like there could have been more there to really pull you throughout the story, especially because the concept was such a strong one.

Literally everything about this book was honestly terrible. It has over a four rating on Goodreads and I cannot fathom why. The writing, the characters, the plotting, pretty much everything fell flat and it honestly just felt like a flimsy non-interesting regurgitation of so many tropes and things that have already been done before.

This is a shocking example of a show adaptation being leagues ahead of the original source material. And I actually found the book to be not just like underwhelming, but at times bad.

I liked it on the surface. It's like the outline of this book I really appreciated, but the execution just really fell flat and I also feel like it contained so many serious and triggering elements that I also felt like were underdeveloped and perhaps even just used for like plot shock.
