10 Stand Alone Fantasy Novels I Adore

And that's Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia E. McKillb, another absolute classic fantasy writer. In case you have ever doubted the power and potential of a standalone fantasy novel, however, I want to talk about a book which manages to host multiple POVs... then like it's all happening in this book and it manages to do it well.

I think it would have made a lovely contemporary romance. They're both wonderful characters, but the magic for me is just what levitated it through that five stars.

But this is one of my favorites because I feel like it's sort of like the precursor or an early version of what we now term cozy fantasy. It's one of those soft books where there's not a lot of like high drama, but what is there is really impactful and it's really beautiful to read.

And if you're looking for a beautiful sappic fantasy novel, then this is one to check out. I think it explores beautifully colonialization, toxic relationships, kind of familial relationships with the mother and the protagonist.

And it is such a beautiful heartfelt gutwrenching emotional read. Lucy Holland has a beautiful way with words and she really sort of takes you back in time to this very magical version of our past and it's very transportive.

If you love like a kind of again like sort of found family get together aboard a ship, whether it's a sea ship or a sky ship, etc., this is a perfect novel for you. I've read a few books by PJ Clark and I always love his world building.

I absolutely loved this take on the traditional sort of dragon sea god that you find in different mythologies and in this case inspired by Korean stories. So, it's such a beautiful narrative.
