In his book Civilization and Its Discontents, I know I'm always talk about it, but it's a good one. Freud explains that we're unhappy in civilization because it requires the repression of our violent and sexual impulses to function.
Dispatches by Michael Herr BOOK REVIEW
I absolutely loved it. I highly recommend it. It is one of the best books I've ever read.
I think Bataille thought of war in a similar way in his book The Accursed Share, which I haven't read in forever, but I remember really enjoying it.
