Something that I think this book really succeeded at was writing about how emotional this situation is. When it comes to that part of the book, the author nailed it. The other issue that I had with this book was how Otis treated Meg.
Phantom limbs (2016)
Otis and Meg were inseparable until her family abruptly moved away after the terrible accident that left Otis s little brother dead and both of their families changed forever. Since then, it s been three years of radio silence, during which time Otis has become the unlikely protege of eighteen-year-old Dara part drill sergeant, part friend who s hell-bent on transforming Otis into the Olympic swimmer she can no longer be.

The dying grass
William T. Vollmann
2015 · 1366 pages · 1 review
Others: PositiveIn this new installment in his acclaimed series of novels examining the collisions between Native Americans and European colonizers, William T. Vollmann tells the story of the Nez Perce War, with flashbacks to the Civil War. Defrauded and intimidated at every turn, the Nez Perces finally went on the warpath in 1877, subjecting the U.S. Army to its greatest defeat since Little Big Horn as they fled from northeast Oregon across Montana to the Canadian border. Vollmann?s main character is not the legendary Chief Joseph, but his pursuer, General Oliver Otis Howard, the brave, shy, tormented, devoutly Christian Civil War veteran. In this novel, we see him as commander, father, son, husband, friend, and killer.

The villagers whisper that a breath-stealing monster from folklore has taken up residence in Easton’s home. Easton knows better than to put too much stock in local superstitions, but they can tell that something is not quite right in their home. . . or in their dreams.
