I love her stories, but this middle-grade ghost story series really I just felt like it was below her level... I also thought the plot was a little lackluster.

And the reason that I was disappointed by this book is that I feel like the concept was wasted a little and was not explored to the extent that it could have been. You know, I had conversations about the concept of this book with other people who had read the book that were more interesting than the book itself does.
I very much agree with the main message and statements of this book... The main problem that I have with this book is that he doesn't practice what he preaches.
I thought that it was going to be more subtle. It was very out there that everyone now hated him and I think I would have enjoyed the story a lot more if it was just a little more subtle. Maybe I just had the wrong expectations for this book.
What this book ended up being was not even a fun romantic book cuz first of all, all the characters to me were extremely unlikable... I've honestly never read a book where so many implausible and genuinely just toxic things happen.
I really loved the first book... I do still recommend reading Warcross because that book is really great.
The reason the second book disappointed me is because it didn't feel like a great sequel to Warcross, much less a great conclusion to a duogy. So, although I did enjoy Wildcard as a book in itself, I think it's weak as a sequel because it just wasted the potential of the great things that Warcross offered us.
