this is alice like this is the new alice allison and i there's like very queer very black very urban american very a lot of like portal fantasies like there's a lot of moving from this world to the other world and that world back and really fascinating villain in this one and a really satisfying coming into one's power journey

brown girl in the ring is nella hopkinson's debut novel and we follow tijuan who lives in the burn which is a futuristic even though this was written in the 90s it was a really wonderful a wonderful read it was great to read it again this is my third time reading it and i see different things every time

very interesting concept futuristic humanoid humanoids living inside the bodies of space-faring beings animals now that's enough like that is enough that is a fresh new interesting concept that is enough to just get me into the story and to a piqued my interest and nikki drayden delivered it was wonderful

this was incredible african futurism graphic novel pure excellence the main character is a pregnant black woman who is like just super smart super powerful and i loved the colors i loved the story i loved the aliens

riot baby took the anger of the anger that black peoples feel about our lives not mattering and about senseless racist killing and death and spec and systemic and institutional oppression it took all of that rage and turned it into a magical force that just gave me what i needed

black mermaids middle grade heartwarming story between a daughter and her father and a daughter and her friend and a girl and her friends and lots of like underwater description of underwater magic which was really fascinating and profound

good luck girls this was really great it was part road trip part black girl magic afro retro futurist and very like feminist and queer and really beautiful in a lot of ways

the top narrator of the year for me was joe morton and he was the one who narrated the water dancer and i have to give him credit because i know that people talked about the plot like the water dancer having a very slow plot like plotting plot but when you listen when you have a really good narrator that just goes out the window and doesn't really doesn't really matter so that was like really wonderful

this was so sweet i'm really enjoying like alien characters that have like computer brains and that's one of the care like the robot computery type brains but the magic system in here and the technolo technology in here was really great

it was just really it was it was very powerful there was a lot of love for family a lot of love for community a lot of very interesting like magic like possession magic

this one was special to me because of the story of anyanwu who is a very powerful immortal being who gets entangled with another entangled that's a word of 2020 gets entangled with another immortal being and has to deal with the violence of him right the violence of him despite the fact that there's no one else like the two of them that they know of in the world
