What did they do to Frankenstein?

So, although I think that this novel is as close to perfection as a book can be, I would be over the moon if somebody changed some of the elements and made a better version of this story. In the book, the creature murders the innocent. It understands revenge and it goes out of its way to calculate how to inflict emotional pain onto Victor.
