Eversion - Alastair Reynolds returns to the standalone

In conclusion, I really, really enjoyed Iversion. I wouldn't say that it was so amazing that it knocked me over, but the more I think about it, it's not it's not far off.

I'm thinking of something like the original Revelation Space Trilogy or House of Suns and I think I love the accurate physics and the presentation of scale, but then I remember the pseudo horror elements and the Gothic sludge.

Compare this to Inhibitor phase, his last book, which I loved, which is really great, but there must be a certain amount of burden having to follow seven or eight books and thinking about the future and matching the style of a saga that you've already written over the last 20 odd years.
