I've read two books by Sally Rooney now and both of them have been misses. Normal People and Beautiful World, Where Are You? And both of them just did not work with me. I was unable to like fully connect to either of them.
Reacting to my Unpopular Book Opinions from 2016... 😱
And it was a banger for me. Like I love this book. I don't care what nobody says. It worked for me. It's so full of heart and love and coffee and greatness and time travel and I love it so much.
The only book of hers that I've read so far that I liked was Delirium. I loved the writing style in Delirium. It was so poetic and beautiful.
He just wasn't my vibe, but to be honest, Fourth Wing in general just was not my vibe. Had I read Fourth Wing in my Divergent era, I think I would have loved it, because to me, this book is literally Divergent, but with dragons.
I'm going to go with Adam from the If I Stay duology. I didn't mind Adam in If I Stay. Like I thought he was an okay character.
The bad parts of it though, I just found it to be incredibly uninteresting. Like I found myself bored with this book. I can appreciate and understand why people are drawn to Normal People. It's just not a book for me.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I love this book. I love the characters. I love the world. And I know it's not the most original book in the world. But I don't even care because I love it.
I think the last one that I read or the last one that's even coming to mind is called Six Wakes and that one was like excellent. It's a space adventure about these clones that were created of people who have been murdered and they must track down their murderer.
But, I read them and I was just kind of like, did I miss all the good parts? The books just drag on and on and I think that's in part due to the writing style.
For me, I believe that would be The Martian. I feel like I kind of went into this one with like hesitancy, but I remember loving this book, like absolutely adoring it.
I did enjoy The Maze Runner book back in the day, back when I read it. Would I enjoy it today? I'm not sure. Probably not going to reread it to be honest, but I remember thinking that they just did a fantastic job with the movie, making the story a lot more interesting.
I'm going to have to go with the Shannara Chronicles trilogy because these books are hecka boring. The books just drag on and on and I think that's in part due to the writing style. It's very descriptive.
To be fair, I should have DNF'd this book cuz your boy did not enjoy it. It was just a disaster from beginning to end.
but then I read Where She Went and Where She Went kind of follows Adam's perspective and oh hot dang, I can't stand Adam. I cannot stand him.
I tried to read this a few years ago and I really struggled with it. Like the first 10 pages had me cringing, which I knew was a bad sign, so I ended up just like ditching it.
