My favorite of all of the episodes was Appetite by P. Pramoedya. So, this one is about a woman who works in a kitchen and is just trying to figure out their life and their passions and their ambition... it's just this kind of feel-good journey, especially with a career focus, and I really liked it.
Favourite Books of the Season & Chatting Q3 Stats
And then my least favorite of the quarter is Dear Monster Claus. It was just really badly written. I'm so sorry that is a fact that I had to endure, but I'm saving other people from having to read it.
And then my favorite, another speculative romance-forward story, Every Version of You, my only five-star. It isn't a perfect book. It does also have its flaws.
I think in the sixth spot, I would pop Exit Party by Emily St. John Mandel. This is a story set in the near future, also kind of current day, just over a decent chunk of time with this woman who is trying to figure out well, at first, where her friends have gone, for second, if there's like doppelgangers in kind of a different version of reality.
Probably Fever Dream cuz I don't think this is like objectively bad. It just wasn't for me. It's one of those books that has a really low stakes, but is pretending it has high stakes, and everyone's like so stressed out all the time.
My favorite unexpectedly is The North Star, but that was a four star.
My favorite from those two videos I think I'd say Queenie by Candice Carty Williams, though there were a good amount of four stars and this was a four star.
I did a tentacle vlog where I read books that had to do with tentacles. favorites, again at four stars, are Remarkably Bright Creatures and The Soul of the Octopus.
my favorite from that video with a four was Swift and Shadow.
My favorite from that was probably The Changeling by Victor LaValle. Again, just a four-star though.
In my five spot, I would pop The Examiner. This was most successful as like a story of art students and the tension between them, how they're all living different lives, a correspondence, less about the actual mystery itself.
Then I'd probably put The Luminous Dead, which has two characters who are going into these like cave tunnels. It's just way too long and way too boring, and there was some interesting moments, but overall it was just like learning about people's backstory and like their communication, their relationship, when they'd never met, and it just wasn't for me.
Okay, third spot's going to go to the Mash-Up because this had an element to it that I didn't like quite as much as the other part. It was so whimsical and fun, pretty light-hearted, a lot of banter.
I did a tentacle vlog where I read books that had to do with tentacles. favorites, again at four stars, are Remarkably Bright Creatures and The Soul of the Octopus.
In the second worst spot I would put Trope Sick. This was exhausting. These two people are writing a book together, but it was so high drama the entire time and it was just ramping up and ramping up and ramping up and it was so extremely stressful.
My favorite I think I would say Wordslut by Amanda Montell. What this did really do for me is give me origins of language, and especially words like the more feminine versus masculine words that have become used as insults or slurs over time.
