I did end up giving it four stars, which I feel like I give most books in the series... I just loved how it was about the love of storytelling.
My Hates & Loves of May π
A Most Agreeable Murder by Julia Seales, I gave somewhere in the threes. It looks like I couldn't decide if it was a three or a 3.5.
I picked this up because it's by an author who I read a short story from in one of my favorite collections, Africa Risen.
Benny Rose, the Cannibal King... It was Hailey Piper's best writing that I have experienced and just had like a classic kind of 90s slasher feel. Felt really nostalgic... it's worth it to pick up this collection just for that one.
Best Offer Wins by Marisa Cassino, I gave five stars... Best Offer Wins really was memorable for me. It was crazy and silly and an over-the-top thriller.
Fundamentally by Nnedi Okorafor Eunice, I gave a five stars.
I gave this four stars. I thought the vibe was really good. The writing was good. The narration was good... I really enjoyed it and would recommend.
And then I also would recommend House of Now and Then. If you like the types of things that I like, this was on my TBR without a doubt this year. And I gave it four stars.
I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Mackay, I gave it two.
Jonathan Abernathy, You Are Kind by Molly McGhee, I gave three stars. I wanted to give this five stars and I want to keep this cuz the cover is beautiful... but I do not need them.
Kill Creatures, sadly in the same vlog by Riley Sager, I also gave it two... I just didn't like much about this, but I gave it a two because I do recognize I'm just not the audience for it.
Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century by Kim Fu, I also gave five stars.
Margot's Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe, I gave a 4.25... That's definitely Marlowe got money troubles because pitching a book to me as funny rarely I'm going to laugh anyway... I got much more on board for it than I ever thought that I would.
I'm also going to recommend Nine Goblins. If you can get your hands on this one, it's low fantasy, high mischief. Me and my mom both liked it, but it's not like a life-changing one.
This little stack is books that I already own and I read and I liked and therefore I will continue to own. She's Always Hungry by Eliza Clark, I gave four stars.
It's called Teenage Girls Can Be Demons by Haley Piper and it's a collection of you know, bizarre and scary things that teenage girls participate in or happen to them... I gave it a 3.75 at the end of the day.
This is a really good essay collection. There's some things in it I really didn't like and I think you could not like, but overall I think it's a good one.
I think it's important for people to go into this knowing that it is ambiguous. Like you don't get a lot of answers and that's not just the ending, but like the entire book... the entire book you are lost and it's not really a satisfying ending.
It just took me so long to get through this to the chapters were so incredibly long and we were always following storylines and people that felt like it was taking me out of the action... and then it just dragged on and on and on.
it was my perfect book... I thought it was great. I thought it was representative of a specific type of woman and then we see an arc with that character.
The concept is really good. This like kind of enemies-to-lovers situation. But I was not having fun, especially in the first half... I thought it was a fine book.
The Library After Dark by Andi Pliego, I gave three stars. Was it a three? Was it a 3.5? It was a 3.5, my apologies.
It did feel a little disconnected. Like I can only give this a four. I wanted to give it a five so bad because I loved the first half and liked the second half.
I also vlogged reading The Unselected Journals of Emma Lyon book one, which I gave a three
